According to the WHO, asthma is a disease of public health importance. It was estimated that over 339 million people have asthma and more than 419,918 deaths were recorded globally in 2016.
Although the condition is incurable, it is possible to manage asthma, to reduce and prevent episodes or occurrence of attacks.
The theme of world asthma day for the year 2022 is “UNCOVERING ASTHMA MISCONCEPTION.”
The idea behind this is to provide a call to action to address common myths and misconceptions about asthma.
These common misconceptions are often detrimental and don’t help raise awareness. They also prevent people with asthma from enjoying the benefits from major advances in the management of this condition

 People with asthma should not exercise.
Facts;
 Asthma is not infectious.
 Asthma does not go away with age.
 Asthma is not only controlled with high dose steroid.
 People with asthma are encouraged adopt a good asthma management plan and exercise to keep their lungs and improve their functions.

What Do I Do If I Have An Asthma Attack? If you or a loved one is having an asthma attack and the symptoms don’t get better quickly after following the  asthma action plan , follow the "red zone" or emergency instructions and contact your doctor right away. You need urgent medical attention. 1. Give asthma first aid. If the person doesn't have an  asthma  plan: Sit them upright comfortably and loosen tight clothing. If the person has asthma medication, such as an inhaler, help them take it. If the person doesn’t have an inhaler, use one from a  first aid  kit. Do not borrow someone else’s. The medicine in it may be different than the needed rescue medicine. Also, using someone else's inhaler has a slight risk of passing on an infection. 2. Use an inhaler with a spacer, if possible. Remove the cap and shake the inhaler well. Insert the inhaler into the spacer. Have the person breathe out completely and put their mouth tightly around the spacer mouthpiece. P
